The Xiaomi Piston 3 are good pair of earphones for people who like a bass. Their build quality is very high, as we are used to be of Xiaomi. The mid’s are unfortunately a bit pushed to the back by the strong bass, whereas the highs can be described as ‘good’.
- High build quality
- Deep Bass
- Comfortable thanks to the curved earbuds
- Bass pushes the mid's a bit to the back
The Xiaomi Piston 3 are the successors of the Xiaomi Piston 2. As much attention the Xiaomi Piston 2 received, the Xiaomi Piston 3 also received a lot of attention, and expectations were high. We can conclude in this Xiaomi Piston 3 review, they are a worthy successor of the Piston’s 2. They have a different sound than the Piston’s 2, mainly characterized as warm, whereas the Piston’s 2 were very accurate.
The sound of the Xiaomi Piston 3 can be mainly described as being warm. These is an emphasis on the bass, and low-mid’s. The bass levels deep, and does contain a good sub-bass, you can feel the bass vibrating as sub-woofers do. If you like earphones with a lot of bass, these ones will suit well. The mid tones are overall good, however they are getting a bit pushed into the back by the bass. This causes that vocals are pushed back a bit when listening to songs with heavy bass and vocals. Finally, the highs are sounding overall good. They can’t compete to the Xiaomi Piston’s 2, but they doing well. The sound is overall pleasant for listening long sessions, despite the bass which is strongly in front.
Design & Build Quality
The Xiaomi Piston 3 have great build quality. The materials used are feeling and looking of very high quality. The earbuds themselves, are of plasic, but it’s doenst look cheap as you can see on the pictures. The cables have clothes around them, which provides a premium look and feel. Furthermore, the headphone jack is L-shaped, which prevents the cables from getting broken. The design of the Xiaomi Piston 3 is also great, I like that everything is black.
Overall the earphones are very comfortable. The earbuds are curved, which causes that the earbuds will fit a bit a deeper into your ears. This prevents falling out the earbuds, and is as well very comfortable. I used the earbuds also while running, which is great because of their curved design. The very present bass may causes some discomfort while listening longer to the earphones, it’s sometimes kinda bassy.
Xiaomi have successful introduced the successor of the Xiaomi Piston 2. The sound characteristics are quite different, whereas the Xiaomi Piston 3 is more warmer. I think for some people the Xiaomi Piston 2 will suit better, who prefer an accurate sound, whereas people who like bass, will prefer the Xiaomi Piston 3. The Xiaomi Piston 3 is on audio level not able to beat the Rock Zircon’s, however there building quality is a higher level. Overall we can conclude in this Xiaomi Piston 3 review that these are a nice pair of earphones, however the bass is a over-presented.
